Early Onset Dementia Care
At B&M Care, we have several care homes that offer specialised, person-centred care for individuals diagnosed with early-onset dementia. Also known as young-onset dementia, it impacts people below age 65, most commonly affecting those in their 40s and 50s. It is estimated that over 70,800 people live with early onset dementia in the UK alone.
Individuals experiencing this early onset often face different challenges and have different needs to older people with the condition. This makes it all the more important that the care they receive is tailored to their individual needs, and helps them to maintain their independence, ensuring they live a fulfilling lifestyle.

Person-Centred Approach to Early Onset Dementia Care
Receiving a diagnosis of early onset dementia can feel life-altering. Many individuals are still working, raising families, or deeply engaged in active, independent lives. That’s why a one size fits all approach to care simply isn’t enough.
At B&M Care, every member of staff in our specialist dementia care homes is trained using our unique Rose Model of Dementia Care. The model ensures that each individual is placed at the heart of every decision, every routine, and every moment of their care support.
Our staff work closely with medical professionals, families and the individual to create a structured care plan that aims to support cognitive function, physical health and emotional wellbeing to ensure they can flourish.
Specialist Support for Younger Individuals
People experiencing early onset dementia may be struggling to navigate their changing identity. We understand the challenges that a diagnosis of dementia in early adult life can bring, and how distressing it can be for the individual and their loved ones. It can create financial difficulties, or drastically change care responsibilities for dependents such as children and elderly parents.
That’s why we meet each person with empathy, and with a commitment to recognising them for who they are and provide dedicated support for them throughout every step of their journey.
As specialists in early onset dementia care, we offer a range of therapies and support to help individuals thrive in our care homes.

That’s why our specialist facilities are carefully tailored to reflect the lifestyles, interests, and emotional needs of a younger generation.
Our specialist facilities are thoughtfully designed to support younger adults, helping them maintain independence, dignity, and autonomy, across specialist care homes like Dalton Lodge, Ryeview Manor and St Andrews. These include dedicated dementia-friendly living spaces, designed to be comfortable and homely, whilst encouraging independence in a safe, calm environment that doesn’t feel clinical.
We know how important it is for families to feel their loved one is truly seen and cared for, not just as someone living with dementia, but as a person with a story and a whole life of experiences and loves. With our purpose-built spaces and compassionate care teams, you can feel confident that your loved one will be cared for as part of a family.

Care Needs Assessment
At B&M Care, we understand that everyone is unique. That’s why every individual receiving early onset dementia care benefits from a care needs assessment, which helps us to understand a person’s needs, likes and dislikes and goals. Our dedicated care teams work in partnership with medical professionals, physiotherapists, and family members to create a structured plan that supports the individual to maintain a high quality of life.

For younger individuals living with early onset dementia, activities help to improve mood and exercise cognitive and physical skills, making them a vital component of an individual’s care. Early Onset Dementia Care FAQs
A diagnosis of early onset dementia can cause emotional and practical challenges for both the individual and their family. Discover further information below and details about how you can access further support.
Early onset dementia is a type of dementia that develops before the age of 65, and is sometimes referred to as ‘young onset dementia’. The most common types of dementia in younger people include Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia and frontotemporal dementia, among others.
Common symptoms of early onset dementia include cognitive, behavioural and physical symptoms. Some signs to look out for include:
- Difficulties with concentration, organisation or speech
- Changes in personality and behaviour, relationships and mood
- Decreased involvement in daily activities
- Changes in vision, balance, swallowing and overall mobility
As early onset dementia typically affects people under the age of 65, its symptoms can often be overlooked or misattributed to stress or other life pressures. Unlike dementia in later-life, you may start to notice these symptoms while someone is still working, raising a family, or living an otherwise active lifestyle.
Early onset dementia poses unique challenges for the individual and their families, and can be extremely distressing. We offer a range of support for families, including counselling, support groups and resources to help families understand and deal with the challenges posed by young onset dementia. You might also find our online dementia information guides useful for finding information when you need it.
At B&M Care, we offer different funding options and offer bespoke care plans with all-inclusive fees. We welcome both individuals who are self-funded and those funded by local authorities. Before admission into one of our homes, we do require confirmation that the fees can be met. We also ask for evidence of private payment capability for a minimum of 3-4 years. You can learn more on our payment information page, or contact us directly.
