Our Mission

We are dedicated to providing compassionate care to the older generation and those living with dementia. To achieve our mission we are committed to valuing, educating and supporting our workers and communities, ensuring that we remain connected in everything we do. We recognise the importance of honouring future generations by adopting sustainable practices and actively working to minimise our impact on the planet upon which we depend.

What Is ESG?

ESG stands for Environmental, Social and Governance, and is a framework that helps organisations like ours reflect on how we care not only for our residents and team members, but also for the wider world around us. At its heart, ESG is about doing the right thing. For people, for the planet, and for the future. In the care sector, ESG takes on a special meaning, as our day-to-day work relies heavily on trust, compassion and responsibility. ESG simply helps us express those values in a structured and more transparent way.

Environmental Responsibility: refers to areas like energy consumption, waste management, sustainable practices across an organisation. We’re constantly looking at how our care homes can reduce their impact on the planet and even enhance biodiversity. Not only is this beneficial for the environment, but it often creates calmer, more pleasant surroundings for our residents and staff too.

Social Responsibility: includes areas like diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as employee development and education opportunities. Social responsibility is deeply woven into everything we do at B&M Care. We want our homes to be welcoming, inclusive spaces where everyone; residents, families, and staff alike feel respected, heard and valued. We also understand that it is our responsibility to be an integral part of the communities we serve and act as a force for good in supporting our local societies.

Governance: relates to how an organisation is led, including the diversity on its board and its ethics. Governance may sound corporate, but in the care sector, it’s simply about how we lead with integrity. We aim to make decisions that are fair, ethical, and transparent. It’s also about strong leadership, accountability, and having diverse voices around the table to guide our vision.

Our Commitment to ESG

Environment

We are actively working to reduce our environmental impact and make sustainability a central part of how we operate. Through the Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) scheme, we monitor and report our annual carbon usage, and we identify and prioritise key energy saving actions using the Environmental Energy Savings Scheme (ESOS).

Sustainability in our care homes

Environmental considerations are increasingly important when it comes to the design, build, and upgrade of our care homes. New developments are built to meet modern energy and sustainability standards, with improvements focused on better thermal performance, enhanced air tightness, and more passive cooling. We are also moving away from gas heating systems in favour of greener electric solutions and on-site renewable energy.

We have partnered with Spirit Energy to install solar panels on 22 of our existing care homes, as well as on our upcoming homes currently under construction. So far, solar panels are up and running at our Support Office, The Radley, and Osbourne Court care homes. This rollout is continuing, with plans to equip up to ten more care homes by the end of the year.

We also plan to update homes that currently use solar thermal systems, replacing them with more energy-efficient solar PV systems that generate renewable electricity. Osbourne Court is also home to our first fully electric kitchen, marking a significant step in our transition away from gas. Ashlyns and St Matthews are due to follow suit later this year.

We recognise that environmental responsibility requires long-term commitment. While there is more to achieve, we are making steady progress and embedding sustainable thinking at every level.

Social

Social responsibility is at the core of how we operate, both within our homes and across the communities we serve. As specialists in dementia care, we believe it’s our duty to share our expertise, not just with those we care for, but with the wider public. That’s why we are committed to delivering free educational events, including in-person seminars, online webinars, and immersive experiences like the Virtual Dementia Tour. These initiatives support families caring for loved ones at home and help raise awareness about dementia across our local communities.

We are equally committed to supporting our workforce. Our Leadership Pathway enables team members to develop into future leaders in care, and many of our current managers are proud graduates of the programme. Alongside professional development, we provide a range of wellbeing benefits, internal awards, and recognition schemes to ensure staff feel valued and supported throughout their careers with us.

By investing in education, opportunity, and meaningful community engagement, we continue to build a care culture rooted in trust, expertise, and meaningful contribution to those we support.

This focus on social impact closely reflects our B&M Care values – compassion, connection, and commitment. Whether we are supporting families, developing our teams, or engaging with the wider public, these principles guide how we act and how we care. They are the foundation of the relationships we build and the lasting difference we aim to make in people’s lives.

Governance

Effective governance is fundamental to delivering safe, high-quality care. As a regulated care provider, we operate under the oversight of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and are subject to regular inspections and external reviews. To meet these expectations, we maintain clear accountability structures and robust internal audits and controls, supported by a leadership model that ensures consistency and high standards across all homes.

Governance at B&M Care is built on transparency, integrity, and responsible decision-making. It defines how we manage risk and maintain the quality of care, while also guiding how we meet our broader responsibilities as a care provider. Our policies include safeguarding procedures, a formal whistleblowing framework, and an Ethical Marketing Policy, which underpins our commitment to communicating transparently and responsibly. These policies are continually monitored and strengthened through a programme of regular internal and board-level evaluation.

We are continuing to strengthen our governance systems, ensuring that operational decisions reflect both ethical standards and long-term strategic aims. Senior leaders monitor performance across care quality, compliance, and operational standards, using key indicators to guide improvements and maintain accountability throughout the organisation.

This approach reflects our commitment to delivering care that families can trust and a culture that upholds the highest professional and regulatory standards.
