Benefits of Convalescent Care Home Stays
When recovering from an illness, injury, or surgery, the environment and level of support you receive can make all the difference. There are multiple benefits of convalescent care, including:
- Faster recovery: convalescent care allows you to receive a care plan centred on your unique needs and goals. The combination of personalised therapies, exercise, dietary and medical support will support quicker recovery.
- Reduced hospital stays: rather than remain in hospital until you are fully recovered, convalescent care or reablement allows you to recover in a more comfortable environment.
- Peace of mind: families can feel reassured knowing their loved one is receiving high-quality care and personalised, around-the-clock supervision and support.
- Access to therapies: on-site physiotherapy and occupational therapy sessions help restore mobility and strength, and all are delivered in the comfort of our care homes.
- Social engagement: convalescent care at B&M Care means living as part of a community, with opportunities to socialise with staff and fellow residents, helping to reduce loneliness and feelings of isolation during the recovery period.

Convalescent Care Needs Assessment
Before beginning a convalescent stay at B&M assessment allows our team to fully understand your medical history, rehabilitation goals, and personal preferences so we can deliver the most effective, person-centred care possible.
The assessment will cover:
- Recent medical history and diagnoses
- Medications you are currently taking and any medical plans you are following
- Mobility, dietary, and personal care needs
- Your reablement and rehabilitation goals
- Mental wellbeing and emotional support needs
- Lifestyle preferences and daily routines

Adapted Activities and Socialising
At B&M Care, we believe that mental and emotional wellbeing are just as important as physical recovery. The process of convalescence isn’t just about strengthening the body, it’s also about nurturing the mind as well. We understand that recovery can sometimes feel isolating or challenging, which is why we offer activities and opportunities for socialising to help you on your reablement journey.
Convalescent Care FAQs
We aim to make the process of transitioning from injury or hospitalisation to convalescent care as smooth as possible. If you are entering care from a hospital, the hospital will assess your health and help you decide if you need convalescent care.
Convalescent care provides short-term, professional support for individuals recovering from illness, surgery, or injury. It focuses on rehabilitation, restoring strength, and promoting independence before returning home.
The length of stay in convalescent care is typically short-term, depending on your individual recovery needs. It can range from a few weeks to several months, depending on the nature of your illness, surgery, or injury, and your progress towards regaining independence. Your care plan will be regularly reviewed, and we’ll work with you and your healthcare providers to determine the optimal length of stay for your recovery.
Yes. At B&M Care, physiotherapy and rehabilitation support are key components of our convalescent care services. We arrange for trained physiotherapists to work with you to create a personalised rehabilitation plan, helping you regain strength, mobility, and confidence. Whether you need assistance with movement, balance, or building stamina, we provide the necessary support to aid your recovery and ensure the best possible outcome.
At B&M Care, we offer different funding options and offer bespoke care plans with all-inclusive fees, and we welcome those who are self-funded and those funded by local authorities. Before admission into one of our homes, we do require confirmation that the fees can be met. We also ask for evidence of private payment capability for a minimum of 3-4 years. You can learn more on our payment information page, or contact us directly.
