  • "I would like to say what a wonderful job Karen Langley [Home Manager] and her team are doing at Tara's Retreat. The pandemic has been a huge challenge; from the beginning of the first lockdown, the care and action taken [by the home] has been exemplary. Later, the provision for outdoor visits was dealt with in the best way possible. For this we are very grateful - and want to commend the home."

  • "I have just been listening to the Radio 4 programme 'You and Yours'. It has been about peoples' experiences around visiting their loved ones in care homes. Listening to this has spurred me on to send a big thank you to you, especially Alex [Engagement Lead]. I cannot express just how grateful we are to have Mum living at Tara's Retreat. Special thanks must go to Alex for all she is doing to keep the relatives going."

    Family of Resident

  • "I'm writing to say a huge thank you to all of you who have cared for Mum over the last six months. Your care and empathy have been amazing, especially in her last days. As a family, we are hugely grateful for the dignity and sensitivity you gave to her."

    Family of Resident

  • "The continuity of staff has enabled them to get to know my Mum’s changing moods. It is very reassuring for me and my family that the staff can manage her behaviour with so much care and attention."

Our Staff

Tara's Retreat Care Home has a select team of experienced care staff who have each undertaken bespoke training to meet the individual needs of the home's residents. The home provides appropriate ratios of staff both day and night, alongside a day-to-day care ethos that delivers highly-personalised care where dignity, freedom and privacy are consistently upheld. With an industry-envied training programme and ongoing support & development, B&M Care's guiding principles are what define our staff within the dementia care sector.
“I was appointed as Home Manager at Tara’s Retreat in 2017 after working in the same position at B&M Care’s sister home in St Albans, Clare Lodge. Like many other B&M Care Home Managers, I started my career as a Care Assistant and progressed ‘through the ranks’ to Deputy Manager. In addition to my experience, I have completed a number of qualifications, including several NVQs in Health & Social Care, as well as the ‘Champion of Dementia Care’ programme run in conjunction with Alzheimer’s Society.”
