Meet the Manager
“I was appointed as Home Manager at Tara’s Retreat Care Home in Sandridge in 2017, after working in the same position at B&M Care’s sister home in St Albans, Clare Lodge. Like many other B&M Care Home Managers, I started my career as a Care Assistant and progressed ‘through the ranks’ to Deputy Manager. In addition to my experience, I have completed a number of qualifications, including several NVQs in Health & Social Care, as well as the ‘Champion of Dementia Care’ programme run in conjunction with Alzheimer’s Society.
Welcome to Tara’s Retreat, a real home from home, where community spirit and your wellbeing are our priority.”
Karen Langley – Home Manager
Resident and Daughter of Resident at Tara’s Retreat
“My mother is treated with great kindness and dignity by the staff. It is very clear that the staff and the management work very hard to look after the residents. Although my mother suffers significantly from Alzheimer’s, she is always able to tell me that she is looked after very well. Great credit to the manager and her team.”

Engagement and Wellbeing
Here at Tara’s Retreat Care Home in Sandridge, engagement and wellbeing is at the heart of our person-centred approach to care. Our dedicated Engagement Leads organise varied social calendars for events and entertainment, in groups and individually. Every resident experiences meaningful occupation, designed around their personal wishes, preferences and abilities.
Resident’s meetings lead the agenda for the organised activities and events. Wine and Cheese evenings, visits to local museums, or simply tending to their beautiful vegetable garden, are all favourites here. If a resident has a special interest or hobby, the Engagement Team strives to cater for it.
Every single engagement and wellbeing activity is available to all residents at no additional cost. Our all-inclusive fee covers everything the home offers.
Every resident, in each B&M home, also has access to The Hideaway – a cosy countryside retreat with extensive grounds, and on-site Reminiscence Museum.
Our B&M Care Homes are designed to be all-inclusive experiences, that feel just like home. Your fees will include your laundry, dining, and 24/7 personalised care. Visit our Paying For Care page to learn more.

Love is in the air at Tara’s Retreat! ❤️
After David shared that he and Dorothy would love to enjoy dinner together, our team transformed the café into a cosy candlelit restaurant.
With flowers, drinks and a delicious sharing platter, they spent the evening laughing, reminiscing and enjoying each other’s companyand they’re already planning to make it a monthly tradition.

What a lovely day at The Lodge in Hemel Hempstead. We enjoyed painting with Tara, a spot of gardening, plenty of tea and coffee and definitely far too many biscuits! It was wonderful spending time with our lovely residents and sharing in the activities they enjoy. 🎨

“I’d love to go back there.” ❤️
When Ann shared her wish to revisit St Leonard’s Church in Sandridge, our team at Tara’s Retreat knew how meaningful the journey would be.
The church holds treasured memories of her brother Roland, who cared for its building and gardens for many years. Ann spent a peaceful morning admiring the stained-glass windows, sharing a quiet prayer and reminiscingbefore enjoying cake in the gardens, of course!
Sometimes the shortest journeys take us furthest down memory lane.
