“I joined B&M Care in 2014 as the Home Manager of St Catharines, and transferred to Milford Lodge Care Home in Hitchin in 2018. Throughout my career at B&M Care, I have gained an NVQ Level 5 in Leadership for Health & Social Care, as well as the ‘Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow’ programme delivered in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society. The move from St Catharines to Milford Lodge gave me the opportunity to develop my skill set and passion for delivering highly personalised dementia care that positively impacts an individual’s day-to-day life.
I am happy to welcome you to our home, where we pride ourselves in providing exceptional care to our elderly residents, in a home from home environment.”

Our dedicated Engagement Leads organise varied social calendars for events and entertainment, in groups and individually. Every resident experiences meaningful occupation, designed around their personal wishes and preferences.
The Engagement Team at Milford Lodge understands the importance of meaningful, person-centred activities that are beneficial for both physical and mental health. Chair yoga classes, games on the ‘Magic Table’, or classic movie nights in their cosy cinema are just a few of their weekly plans.
Every resident, in each B&M home, also has access to The Hideaway – a cosy countryside retreat with extensive grounds, and on-site Reminiscence Museum.

🚒 A fire engine in the car park, familiar faces and memories to share at Milford Lodge!
For this year’s Emergency Services Day on 9th September, our residents welcomed local emergency workers and preschool children for a celebration that got everyone talking.
For Bob, who previously served as a policeman, meeting our visitors was a chance to take a trip down memory lane and share memories of his career. Fellow resident Ronnie also had a personal connection: her late husband had been a police cadet. She was keen to ask about joining ages today, remembering his own start at around 17 or 18. 👮♂️💬
These conversations sparked stories across the generations, with plenty to compare about life then and now. Even the humble landline became a talking point, as residents heard that some of today's young cadets had never seen one! ☎️
The arrival of Hitchin’s firefighters and their fire engine brought a real buzz of excitement. Residents and children explored the equipment, looked at protective gear and enjoyed chatting with the crew, some of whom had visited Milford Lodge before.
Several residents who are new to the home joined in, too. Pat, who is still finding her feet at Milford Lodge, came along to meet the firefighters and enjoy a conversation. Moments like these offer a lovely opportunity to meet people and begin feeling part of the community. ❤️
We were also delighted to welcome back PCSO Phoebe Taylor, a familiar face at Milford Lodge, who spent time catching up with residents and sharing stories about her work.
In the Orangery, chocolate-orange cupcakes, cups of tea, quizzes and wordsearches kept the conversations flowing.
Thank you to our emergency services, our young visitors and our Engagement & Wellbeing Team for bringing everyone together. From revisiting a much-loved career to making a new connection, it was the personal moments that made the day so special. 🌹
