This event takes place from 2pm to 4.30pm at our dedicated training centre, The Forum.
With 12 FREE places available, B&M’s Dementia Level 1 course will deliver awareness into dementia, detailing what dementia is, what the effects can be for the person living with dementia and how we should adapt our care.
This training will give learners an awareness of the theory of person-centred dementia care, which aligns with our B&M Rose Model of Dementia. In addition to this, we will enable learners to understand the pathway to diagnosis, medications that are used in dementia and appropriate communication to support to support an individual.
To conclude, we will give learners an insight into how we monitor and evaluate our care. This training will enable all learners to have a basic understanding of dementia, equipping them with the knowledge to deliver better person-centred care and support.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the session, learners should have a clear awareness of the following:
- Understanding of Dementia
- Understanding of risk factors in developing a dementia
- Understanding of the theory of person-centred Care and the B&M Rose Model
- Understanding the pathway to diagnosis
- Understanding the role of medication in dementia
- Understanding appropriate communication in dementia and caring for complex perspectives
- Understanding how we evaluate and measure our dementia care
About the Trainer
Elaine Thorpe is B&M Care’s Head of Training and has 28 years’ experience in the residential care sector, as well as 15 years working in the NHS. She also has personal experience with caring for a loved one living with dementia. Elaine oversees training for all 1500 employees and the implementation of the Care Quality Training Lead team. She has been instrumental in the design of B&M Care’s induction programme for all new employees, the accreditation of the Dementia training and the establishment of B&M’s Rose Model of Dementia Care.
