St Lukes Celebrates Outstanding Rating

B&M Care is delighted to announce that St Lukes Care Home in Caversham, Berkshire has been rated overall Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
The home achieved Outstanding in ‘effective’ and ‘well-led’ services, and Good for being ‘caring’, ‘safe’ and ‘responsive’ following an inspection carried out in June 2019.
During the inspection, CQC found the home was led by a dynamic, committed and highly knowledgeable management team who promote a good quality of life through exceptional implementation of care, treatment and support.
Further findings included:
- The home’s ongoing refurbishment took into account staff observations of an individual’s behaviours, needs and interests to optimise an environment that positively impacted a person’s experience.
- Prior to the refurbishment, individuals were consulted and involved in the process; staff ensured people played an active role in ‘influencing’ their environment by providing them with wallpaper and furnishing choices to then incorporate these ideas and preferences into the home’s new aesthetic.
- The home used B&M Care’s ‘Rose Model of Dementia Care’ as an observational tool to: (i) empower staff; (ii) focus on a person as a whole; (iii) and address any restrictive practices that had been previously identified.
- People described staff as knowledgeable and were equipped with the skills to meet an individual’s varying care needs.
- The home manager was committed to improving an individual’s experience with a highly dynamic vision that inspired staff to engage with multiple projects and ideas, such as environmental improvements, activities provision, and a falls prevention initiative.
- The home was very outward facing: strong links had been made with the community, including a placement scheme that offered students further insight into a care home environment to address negative publicity shown in the media.
“We are incredibly proud of achieving Outstanding. This is our residents’ home and we work hard to ensure that it is the best it can possibly be through delivering person-centred care within a highly-personable environment by a skilled and committed staff team,” commented St Lukes Home Manager, Kim Franks.
She continued: “This achievement would not have been possible without each and every one of the staff team who share a vision and are dedicated to delivering high standards and continuous improvement.”
St Lukes is B&M Care’s third care home to achieve an overall Outstanding rating following Tremona and White Plains who celebrated the same achievement in March and June respectively.
