Weekend care assistants are required at Ashlyns Care Home Berkhamsted. Competitive rates of pay and comprehensive training.

Accountable to:
The Chairman and Directors of B&M Care

Report to: The Manager/Deputy Manager/Assistant Manager/Team Leader /Senior Care Assistant

Main Responsibility:
To care for and stimulate residents in order for them to continue to enjoy life while assisting them to maintain their dignity and self respect

Duties to include:

  • Assist residents to wash, bathe, shave and hair wash as required
  • Assist residents with feeding as required
  • Assist residents to dress and to take an interest in their appearance
  • Assist residents whose mobility is restricted to negotiate the home and to take them for walks and occasional outings
  • Assist residents with toileting
  • To ensure that residents are properly dressed and in possession of their individual aids, i.e. dentures, hearing aids, walking frames etc. 
  • Ensure that residents clothes are cared for, that missing buttons are replaced, clothing is repaired and to report when items of clothing are beyond repair and therefore need replacing
  • Participate in games, parties, activities and outings to stimulate the residents
  • Participate in programmes of exercise and occupational therapy for residents

    The Home:

  • Laying tables, preparing trays for meals and serving food to residents
  • Making and serving drinks for residents as required
  • Bed making, tidying drawers and wardrobes
  • Assistant in the general cleaning of the home
  • Ensure that soiled lined and clothing are taken to the laundry
  • Putting away clean clothing and linen
  • Emptying and cleaning of commodes
  • Administration of medicines under the supervision of the Manager of Senior Staff

    The Staff Team:

  • To attend staff meetings
  • To contribute to reviews with regard to individual residents
  • Assist senior staff with the admission of new residents in order to create a welcoming atmosphere
  • To welcome residents, relatives and friends into the home and to encourage regular contact
  • To Avail you of opportunities to train in order to obtain greater knowledge of the task
The duties listed above are the basic tasks expected of a care assistant in the normal course of their duty, but you should recognise that there will be variations and some expectancy of flexibility in order to cater for individual residents and their requirements.
