St Matthews Care Home is a modern purpose built home situated close to the picturesque common in the small village of Redbourn in Hertfordshire. The home is just a short drive away from Harpenden and the historic City of St Albans.

The Care We Offer

St Matthews Care Home provides care for elderly residents. We offer several types of stay depending on the level of support required - from long-term residential care to short stay and respite breaks. The home has three environments for residents depending on the level of care required. Meadows and Tree Tops provide residential care whilst Willows is a safe, comfortable environment that specialises in the care of older people living with a dementia. The home is accredited with Hertfordshire County Council for their high standards in dementia care.

St Matthews has a select team of experienced staff, who have relevant and appropriate training to meet the needs of the residents. B&M Care has one of the most envied staff training programmes in the industry. We provide high ratios of staff both day and night. The emphasis of our care delivery is on individually planned person centred care, which builds upon a person's strengths and constantly seeks to improve their quality of life. Freedom and privacy are respectfully maintained, yet help is always on hand.


Alina Verescu


Alina started her career in 1994 as a Nurse and has been working in a care home environment since 2003. She has worked her way up from Senior Carer to Registered Home Manager and joined St Matthews in July 2015. During her time in care she has achieved her Level 3 QCF in Dementia Awareness, Cit and Guilds Level 3 PTTLS, Level 3 Workplace Learning Champion and is currently in the process of completing her Level 5 QCF Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care. Alina regards her team as compassionate and extremely caring.

Margo Mckeown

Deputy Manager

Margo joined the team at St Matthews in 2008 and has many years experience working in the care industry. She has NVQ Level 2 and 3 and has completed the Alzheimers Society Tomorrow is another Day course as well as many other training courses in caring. Along with Mihaela, Margo assists in over-seeing all the care in St Matthews.

Mihaela Alexa

Deputy Manager

Mihaela has been working in the care industry since 2008. She joined B&M Care in August 2015 as Assistant Manager at St Matthews. Mihaela previously worked as Assistant Manager for competitor before joining B&M Care. She has achieved qualifications including QCF Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care, QCF Level 2 Diploma in Dementia Care. Mihaela is currently undertaking QCF Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care.

Forentina Eremia

Assistant Manager

Forentina previously worked as Deputy Manager for another company and joined St Matthews in April 2017 as Assistant Manager. Forentina became a qualified nurse in 2014 and has worked in the care environment since 2009 working her way up from a care assistant. Her qualifications include NVQ Level 3/City & Guilds Level 3 standard, NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding the Safe Handling of Medicines, NCFE Level 2 in Dementia Awareness, NCFE Level 2 in Team Leading Knowledge, Level 3 Award in Education and Training and she has just completed her PTTS training.

Annette Medhurst

Activities Facilitator

Annette has been working in the care industry since 2008, starting her career as a Domiciliary Home Carer, then as a Team Leader in a nursing home. Annette has achieved a NVQ Level 2 and 3, as well as an advanced apprenticeship in Health & Social Care. Her last post was as Activity Co-Ordinator which she held for 5 years. Annette joined St Matthews in December 2018.

Lynn Gannon


Lynn is the administrator at St Matthews and the first person to greet visitors with a smile on their arrival. She has been working at St Matthews since October 2006 and has completed an NVQ2 in Administration. Her responsibilities include dealing with all correspondence, payroll and general admin duties.

  • Bedrooms: All rooms are offered as single en-suite. Some rooms have direct patio/garden access and all of the rooms may be personalised.
  • Dining: All dining and refreshments are fully inclusive. Residents may take meals in a choice of dining areas or if they wish, in the privacy of their own room. Our skilled chef prepares an extensive range of appetising home cooked meals, taking into account nutritional balances and any specific dietary requirements or individual preferences. There is always a choice of menu with refreshments and snacks available 24hrs.

Life at St Matthews Care Home is very much home from home and an active lifestyle is encouraged, with friends and relatives always welcome. An activities and lifestyle facilitator arranges a varied social calendar of activities and entertainment. With a focus on one to one activities, they ensure that each of the residents engage in meaningful occupation tailored to who they are.
