Summary : Residents and staff took care of and watched over 11 eggs as they hatched in an incubator in their Lounge!
Publish Date : 11/01/2010
The project was paid for by OUTFORCE ( a corporate investigation company) and the project was sponsored by Mr Paul Dockley. Paul's parents are currently residents at Willowthorpe.
A little bit about the project from Activity Organiser, Kay Ives..... 11 eggs were delivered to us one Monday morning. All 11 were then placed in an incubator and then we waited.......At lunchtime on Tuesday we saw the first signs of a chick breaking through.....what great excitement, we were late for lunch, talked in hushed tones (in case we disturbed the new born) and I became quite emotional (mother hen syndrome I think). Myself and a few other residents had never seen a chick hatch before and that included a resident that is approaching her 100th birthday this month.
Residents and staff were fascinated and excited about each new chick, to the point of me receiving 9 txt messages and 3 phone calls throughout the evening to keep me updated on the progress. I even got to the point of imagining I could hear chicks in my bedroom at 2am, couldn't get back to sleep so arrived at work at 6.15am to check on the new arrivals. 3 weeks on and they are still causing a stir. The chicks have been visited by...the electrician ....the ambulance drivers....the GP......the vicar.....and the district nurses!
We have already agreed to take care of another lot soon!
